Faculty Writing Retreats
Faculty writing retreats provide a time and place for faculty to focus on specific productivity goal in an environment of support and accountability and an opportunity to develop a network of peers outside of their departments or colleges.
All Virginia Tech faculty (tenured or tenure-track, collegiate, continued appointment or continued appointment track, research, extension, clinical, instructors, adjuncts) are invited to participate in the writing retreats hosted by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost.
“Write-On-Site Retreats”
These retreats provide a space and time for you to focus on your writing. Often, the sessions will consist of directed writing time (“Pomodoros”), to encourage you to stay on track, as well as opportunities to share your progress and frustrations with your fellow writers.
This type of retreat is usually offered in the summer.
“Facilitated Retreats”
These retreats are led by Dr. Monique Dufour, a Faculty Fellow and experienced retreat facilitator. Facilitated retreats provide tools for a realistic, sustainable writing practice, create space for you to make progress on a project, and nurture a writing community.
This type of retreat is usually offered over winter session, for a limited number of participants.
“Virtual Retreats”
Virtual retreats meet over Zoom, and may be in either a write-on-site or facilitated format. Most often, these retreats are 2-hour blocks of directed writing time (“Pomodoros”), held twice a day, in morning and afternoon.
This type of retreat is usually offered over fall break and spring break.
