Tips for Nominators (Academies of Faculty Service and Leadership)
Based on feedback from several years of conversation with nomination review committees, we've put together some tips for a successful package for nominators to consider as they assemble nomination materials. Adherence to these guidelines is crucial. If your nomination does not align with the instructions, it will be returned for revision and resubmission before being considered. Please remember that the selection committee consists of volunteers who contribute this service alongside their regular responsibilities. Nomination letters or narratives entered directly into the submission fields do not meet the requirements and create difficulties for the packet compilation and review processes. We ask that all submissions be concise yet clear, ensuring they meet the necessary standards.
- The nominator statement should be written in list formwith the same care and thoroughness as a letter of endorsement, fully communicating how the nominated individual meets the criteria for selection. Forms with a narrative or nominator letter written into the text box will be returned and require resubmission.
- Those providing letters of endorsement should provide detailed examples of how the nominee has met each criterion. The letters of endorsement may utilize narrative form.
- Specific attention should be given to providing explicit information as to the impact of the nominee's contributions to the university community
- Give thought to the scope of impact. (Who, where?)
- Give thought to the importance of the contribution to the university community. (Why?)
- At least one of these letters should be from someone in an administrative role or recently retired from an administrative role.
- If nominating an individual for BOTH academies:
- The nominator should submit separate descriptions for each academy nomination in the survey. The criteria for each academy are different, so the nomination descriptions should be customized for each academy.
- If using the same letter for nomination to both academies, all criteria must be described in each letter.
