New Faculty Welcome

Registration is closed, but we will accept walk-in registrants from 8:00–8:30 a.m. at the event.

The New Faculty Welcome program is an annual event offered by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, with contributions from other university units that support Virginia Tech faculty.

This event, which is separate and different from the orientation sessions provided by the Human Resources department, is designed to provide overview information about the university, hear from other faculty, and network with new faculty and leadership. This year's event will be held on August 22-23, 2024. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.

The program provides breakout informational sessions for Administrative and Professional Faculty and Teaching and Research Faculty. This targeted program content is designed to address the specific needs and interests of the different faculty groups.

Special Sessions for New Faculty will be held after lunch on Thursday, August 22, 2024:

• 1:00 – 2:45 p.m. - Focus on Teaching Session for New Faculty
• 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. - Focus on Research Session for New Faculty

We will close Thursday afternoon with a reception in the Latham Ballroom from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m.

Special sessions for new international faculty and new postdocs will be held on Friday morning, August 23, 2024.

• 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. - Special International Faculty Session
• 10:30 - 12:30 a.m. - Special Postdoc Session

All new faculty members hired between August 10, 2023 through August 10, 2024 are invited and strongly encouraged to attend this important program. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.
